09-NOV-2017: Three books including festschrifts released in AMU
Aligarh, November 9: Three books including festschrifts presented to Professor Abdur Raheem Kidwai (Director, UGC Human Resource Development Centre?UGC HRDC, Aligarh Muslim University?AMU) on his 60th birth anniversary were released in a special function held at Arts Faculty Lounge, AMU.
Mathnawi karb-e-Jaan ka Tanqeedi Mutala?a edited by Seema Saghir has been published by Educational Book House. Books on Prof Kidwai?s works, Danish-e-Rahbeen edited by Haris bin Mansoor has been published by Brown Books and Bridging the Divide edited by Dr Faiza Abbasi and Sujan Mondal is a Viva Books publication.
The chief guest, Prof Abdul Haque (Department of Urdu, Delhi University) pointed out that AMU is known for contributions to oriental literature and culture. He added that in the present times it is difficult to find such towering scholars and academicians under one roof as they are found in AMU. He also stressed upon the need to uphold orientalism in life, literature and scholarship.
Prof Shafey Kidwai (Department of Journalism and Mass Communication) said that AMU has a long tradition of scholarly volumes dedicated to its academicians.
Prof Zillur Rahman (Ibn-e Sina Academy, Aligarh) said that these books are a milestone in the fields of English and Urdu literatures, Islamic studies and higher education.
The chairperson of the Department of English, Prof Seemin Hasan in a message expressed happiness and reiterated that campuses are vibrant and active with consistent publication of books.
Professor M Asim Siddiqui (Department of English) praised editors of the books for their splendid efforts. He dwelt on Prof A R Kidwai?s scholarly contributions to the fields of literature, orientalism and Quaranic studies.
Maulana Naim-ur Rahman from Lucknow, invoked the expectations of Allama Iqbal from Aligarh students. Professor Masood-ul Hasan (Guest of honour and former chairperson, Department of English), Professor Humayun Murad, Professor Wazahat Husain, Professor Zafarul Islam and Dr Rahat Abrar (Director, Urdu Academy) were also present.
Professor Saghir Afraheim (Department of Urdu) introduced the content of the books and later contributors of these books, Dr Amirullah Khan, Dr Sherin Sherwani, Dr Faiz Zaidi, Ms Shehnoor Shan, Sujan Mondal, Haris Bin Mansoor and others received their personal copies. While Sujan Mondal has contributed an article on English literature besides preparing a bibliography of Prof A R Kidwai?s writings, Haris Bin Mansoor, truly an emerging bilingual scholar, contributed articles both in Urdu and English volumes.
Mr Sajjad Akhtar (Brown Books) delivered the welcome address. Dr Faiza Abbasi conducted the programme, while Sujan Mondal proposed the vote of thanks.
