15-NOV-2017: Vigilance awareness week observed
ALIGARH November 14: As part of the National Vigilance Awareness Drive, the Department of Pharmacology, JN Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University, organized Vigilance Awareness Week. This also marked the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India.
A number of competitive events were organized on this occasion which included panel discussion, postal competition, essay writing, slogan writing. An Integrity Pledge was also conducted during the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Mohammad Nasiruddin, Chairman of the Department, said that it was a noble social initiative which would help build a national character. Quoting from Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, a great social reformer and the founder of the Aligarh Muslim University, Prof Nasiruddin said that ?national progress is the sum total of the individual?s labour, honour, honesty and sympathy while the national downfall is the cumulative result of individual?s laziness, dishonour, dishonesty, selfishness and other weaknesses of character?. He said Sir Syed?s words upheld the importance of a corruption-free society in the comprehensive growth and prosperity of a nation and formed the basic tenets of Aligarh Muslim University.
He said that corruption struck the roots of development and must be prevented at all cost. He pointed out that the cardinal principles of vigilance were transparency, accountability, honesty and integrity.
Conducting the felicitation programme, Prof S Ziaur Rahman underlined the corrupt practices in health sector and medical academics including plagiarism and suggested ways to prevent such practices.
A number of medical residents participated in the events highlighting the various shades of corruption through slogans, posters and essays.
