16-NOV-2017: Invited lecture held on building information modeling
ALIGARH November 16: The Department of Civil Engineering, Z H College of Engineering and Technology, Aligarh Muslim University organized a lecture on ?Building Information Modeling (BIM)? under Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP-III). Prof Shruti Niwas Sharma, a teacher with RICS SBE School of Noida delivered the invited lecture.
In her lecture, Prof Sharma pointed out that the Building Information Modeling is a process involving the generation and management of digital representations of physical and functional characteristics of places. These are files which can be extracted, exchanged or networked to support decision-making regarding a building or other built asset. She said that the current BIM software was used by individuals, businesses and government agencies to plan, design, construct, operate and maintain diverse physical infrastructures, such as water, refuse, electricity, gas, communication utilities, roads, bridges, ports, tunnels, etc.
Welcoming the guests, Prof Mohd Muzammil, Chairman, Department of Civil Engineering said that participants in the building process are constantly challenged to deliver successful projects with tight budgets, limited manpower, accelerated schedules, and limited or conflicting information.
Dr Rizwan Ahmad Khan, Associate Professor, emphasized the need for becoming adapt to new techniques along with the traditional subjects to bridge the gap between institutes and industry. He further said that the department will be organizing more such lectures on the topics of project management and training in new software available for civil engineers.
Dr Javed Alam, Dr Izhar Farooqi, Dr M S Jafri, Dr Farrukh Basheer, along with a host of teachers and students attended the lecture.
