23-NOV-2017: AMU Alumni Forum, UAE marks Sir Syed?s bicentenary with an international conference
ALIGARH November 23: The Aligarh Muslim University Alumni Forum, United Arab Emirates (UAE) organized an international conference on ?Empowerment of the weaker section of Indian society including Women, Minorities and Dalits? in Sharjah, as part of the Sir Syed bicentennial celebrations, under the patronage of HE Dr Mohammed Saeed Al Kindi, former UAE Diplomat and Minister for Environment and Water. The Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, Prof Tariq Mansoor graced the occasion as chief guest.
Addressing on the occasion, Prof Tariq Mansoor stressed the need for putting special focus on the development of weaker section through education and advocated for the educational empowerment of women belonging to all backward communities including Muslims. He also sought suggestion for making the Aligarh Muslim University more sensitive to the plight of marginalized section of society. Prof Mansoor also highlighted the development issues and future plans for the university.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr Mohammed Saeed Al Kindi paid rich tributes to the founder of AMU, Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, calling him a great visionary and intellectual who strongly believed in universal brotherhood and unity amongst various sections of society.
Dr Kindi highlighted the tireless efforts of the Father of UAE, HH Late Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan who is considered the architect of modern UAE and who called up on the nation to treat every person as a special soul beyond his caste and creed. Dr. Kindi also reminded the guests how HH Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan was a keenly interested in promoting female education.
The conference was attended by over six hundred AMU alumni and other guests coming from a cross section of society. Earlier, welcoming the guests, President of the forum, Mr Qutubur Rahman said the best way to felicitate and pay tribute to Sir Syed was to revive his educational movement with the same spirit. He said that it bode well to hold a conference for social in line with Sir Syed?s vision and mission instead of organizing a traditional anniversary programme. He hoped that the ?Empowerment Conference? would become an educational movement for the progress of the weaker section.
Proclaiming the dedication of the conference to the National Day of UAE, observed on December 2, Mr Rahman informed that a multi-purpose complex will be constructed at the Aligarh Muslim University, which will be named after HH Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan.
Mr Adil Akhter (Vice President), Mr Mansoor (General Secretary), Mr Ateeq-ur Rehman Khan (Joint Secretary), Mr Javed Ali Khan (Honorary Treasurer), Executive Committee members and volunteers of AMU Alumni Forum, UAE worked hard for successful organization of the conference.
