25-NOV-2017: US Embassy official visits APJ Abdul Kalam Center for STEM Education and Research
Aligarh, November 25: US National Science Foundation official, Dr. Ellen M. Carpenter, under the flagship of US embassy and USIEF, visited the APJ Abdul Kalam STEM Center for Education and Research at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
Dr Carpenter, who is also a professor of psychiatry and biobehavioral sciences visited to figure out the impact, success and future course of action in STEM education and research at AMU. Her observation will pave way for recommendation that can facilitate possibility for bringing more research and educational opportunities for the varsity. The program was well attended and got a stupendous response.
AMU?s director and co-director Prof. Tauheed Ahmad and Prof. (Mrs.) Farrukh Arjmand, jointly organized the program and gave an overview about the achievements of AMU and Ohio State University (OSU), USA collaboration and also discussed about future line of action and objectives of APJ Abdul Kalam STEM Center.
The graduates of OSU-AMU program Asim Rizvi, Sabiha Parveen and Swaleha Naseem deliberated on their project with presentations and shared their experience about their visit to OSU, USA.
The programme also carried exclusive presentation about Women in upcoming STEM Road show program starting from February 5, 2018 to February 23, 2018 in different cities of India which will be organized under the banner of APJ Abdul Kalm STEM Center.
Considering the participation of women scholars in the programme on equal terms as a blessing for the project, Dr Ellen said that in most STEM programmes, the majority of students, in the US, India and elsewhere, are men. By engaging female participants as STEM specialists, this project serves as a role model for creating a gender-balanced programme, he added.
Prof. Absar Ahmad, Prof. Qudsia Tahseen, Prof. Imrana Naseem, Prof. Rizwan Khan, Prof. Asad Ullah Khan, Prof. Alim Naqvi, Dr. Shakeel Khan, Dr. Wasi Khan and several other faculty members from different departments were also present on the occasion.
Dr. Ellen M. Carpenter also visited Sir Syed House and Women's College and interacted with staff and students. She also had a fruitful meeting with AMU Vice Chancellor professor Tariq Mansoor at his residence, where several important issues were discussed.
Dr. Ellen showed great interest about the progress of work and appreciated the hospitalities. She assured much support and suggested follow-up opportunities for further collaborations.
