Conference on ?Rejuvenating Prosthodontics? held in AMU
Aligarh, December 9: The Department of Prosthodontics, Dr Z A Dental College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in association with the Okayama University, Japan and Indian Prosthodontics Society, UP State Branch organised an International Conference on ?Rejuvenating Prosthodontics?.
While attending the inaugural function as the chief-guest at the University Polytechnic (Boys), AMU Vice Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor said that rapid advances have taken place in dental surgery and medical sciences because of researches in basic sciences in the past 30 years.
He added that the patients benefit from newer techniques that are less invasive and more dependable than the years of past because of the application and discoveries happening in basic sciences of physiology, bio-chemistry and anatomy among other areas.
Professor Mansoor pointed out that he stands committed to improve facilities in the dental college. ?Rs 50 lakhs have been sanctioned for equipment in the dental college and a large amount has also been given to the college for the purchase of journals,? said the Vice Chancellor adding that soon post-graduate seats will be increased. He also congratulated the organising committee for the success of the programme.
Dr Himanshu Aeran (Renowned prosthodontist) said that it is imperative to have an indigenous system, which makes dental surgery affordable to the poor. ?Independent researches show that out of the 90 percent people suffer with dental problems and only 17 percent get treated,? said Dr Aeran. He pointed out that besides making dental treatments affordable, it is also important to raise awareness on dental problems in masses.
Prof R K Tiwari (Principal, Dental College) said that with the cooperation and support of the Faculty of Medicine and the University administration, the dental college in AMU has developed into a centre for excellence, imparting quality education, generating competent, skilled manpower to face the scientific, technological, managerial and social challenges.
Dr Kenji Maekawa from Japan, who was one of the keynote speakers of the conference was felicitated with other speakers by the Vice Chancellor and the organising committee.
A souvenir on the proceedings of the conference and a journal of the Department of Prosthodontics was also released on the occasion.
Prof Gaurav Singh (Chairperson, Department of Prosthodontics and organising chairperson of the programme) delivered the welcome address, while Prof Geeta Rajput (Organising secretary of the programme) proposed the vote of thanks. Dr Shraddha Rathi conducted the programme.
