18-DEC-2017: Vice Chancellor unveils banner on Sexual Harassment of Woman at work place
Aligarh, December18: ?Aligarh Muslim University is committed to promote gender equality and women?s empowerment across every department,? said the Vice Chancellor Prof. Tariq Mansoor while unveiling information banner on Sexual Harassment of Woman at work place, ACT, 2013.
Believing in the old proverb ?Prevention is better than cure,? Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), Aligarh Muslim University, has brought out this information banner in accordance with the Act on Sexual Harassment of Women at workplace, 2013.
The Information on the Banner is an elaboration of some examples of behavior that constitute sexual harassment at the workplaces, outlined in the handbook provided by Ministry of Women and Child Development, November, 2015. Simultaneously a Hindi version of the Information Banner has also been brought out by ICC.
The Vice Chancellor suggested that such banners should be placed at several prominent places in the University to create awareness and an Urdu version should also be brought out.
Presiding Officer of ICC Professor Shaheena Tarannum and members Dr Farah Ashhar, Ms Sabiha Naz Lari, Dr Shaista Bedar and Dr Juhi Gupta were present on the occassion.
The Vice Chancellor was apprised of various activities carried out by ICC in the last six months, such as distribution of the handouts to students at the time of new admission (2017-18), display of helpline numbers and handbills on the noticeboards of approximately 175 Departments/ Offices/ Centers/ Institutes/ Halls of residence maintained by AMU and holding series of Nukkad Nataks in various schools run by the university.
Professor Tarannum shared that the information about the functioning of Internal Complaints Committee is also updated on the AMU website.
The Vice Chancellor lauded the committee members for their efforts and assured full support.
