AMU Old Boys Association mourns demise of Mr Ahmad Saleem Peerzada
Aligarh, December 18: The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Old Boys Association today mourned the sad demise of AMU alumnus and former AMUSU Secretary, Mr Ahmad Saleem Peerzada fondly known as Lovey Peerzada, in a largely attended condolence meeting after a Quran Khwani (Recitation of the Holy Quran). Dr Mohsin Raza (renowned surgeon and former AMUSU President) presided over the programme.
An engineer by education and training, Mr Peerzada was a vibrant student leader famous for articulation. He played a role in representing AMU?s struggle for maintaining the minority character at the national level. In one of the interviews to a national daily, Mr Peerzada stated that ?it is the duty of the government to ensure that educational institutions are not denied their minority character on purely technical grounds and in total disregard to their origin and history.?
His political stint continued even after student life. Mr Peerzada founded the Parcham Party and dedicated his life to work for the rights and dignity of the marginalised sections.
Dr Tariq Mukhtar (Acting Hony Secretray, AMU Old Boys Association) said that Mr Peerzada?s character and personality traits included high thinking, pure truth, daring courage and creativity.
Mr Peerzada breathed his last in the Apollo Hospital, New Delhi after suffering a paralysis attack and brain haemorrhage. He was born in Hardoi in 1954 to late Mr Peerzada Mashuq Husain Khan and Afsar Begum.

Dr Azam Mir Khan (Vice President, AMU Old Boys Association) conducted the programme.
With the passing of a resolution, the AMU Old Boys Association announced that a scholarship of Rs 11, 000 yearly will be given to AMU students from lower economic strata and a literary and cultural cell to promote ideas of late Mr Peerzada will be established. The Association has also appealed the AMU administration to name the University skating ring after Mr Peerzada.
