20-DEC-2017: Rakhshanda Jalil to visit AMU for ?Conversation with Author? event
Aligarh, December 20: Dr Rakhshanda Jalil will be in Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) on December 21, 2018 for a ?Conversation with Author? event on her latest edited work, ?An Uncivil Woman?, a book which tries to capture and convey the sheer force that was the writer and grande dame of Urdu literature, Ismat Chughtai.
The programme is being organised by the Sir Syed Bicentenary Celebrations Committee, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) to remember AMU alumnae, Ismat Chughtai.
Prof Mohammad Asim Siddiqui is the conversant in the event, while Prof Namita Singh and Prof Tariq Chhatari will be present as speakers. The programme will start from 11: 15 am onwards at the Faculty of Arts Lounge.
Dr Jalil is a well known Indian writer, critic and literary historian. She also authored ?Invisible City: The hidden Monuments of India? and a well-received collection of short stories called ?Release & Other Stories? among other books.
After graduating from the Miranda house, Delhi University in 1986, Dr Jalil joined AMU as a lecturer. She later worked as an editorial Assistant at Tata McGraw-Hill Book Publishing Company, Sub-Editor in the Publications Division of the India International Centre and Assistant Editor in the Publications Division of the India International Center.
Dr Jalil has also worked as the Director of the Outreach Programme in Jamia Millia Islamia and co-edited a quarterly journal called ?Third Frame: Literature, Culture and Society,? published and distributed by Cambridge University Press.
