Aligarh, January 11: Dr. Tasleem Arif former Assistant Professor from the Department of Dermatology has brought laurels to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University (JNMC, AMU), for discovering a new technique of calculating the spilt thickness, skin grafting in patients of Vitiligo .
His innovative research has been published in ?Journal of cutaneous and aesthetic surgery, under the heading INNOVATION?. This is the only Pubmed indexed dermatosurgery and aesthetic dermatology journal of South Asian region.
Dr. Arif explained that Vitiligo is an acquired disorder of pigmentation of affecting approximately one percent of the world?s population and is characterised by depigmented macules with significant impact on the quality of life.
He added that his discovery describes a technique that is accurate, simple and cost effective to measure the area of Vitiligo lesion/s. This new technique will guide the dermatosurgeon for harvesting the required amount of graft ensuring no wastage of graft and will also help researchers to calculate disease areas used for scoring of various diseases.
This is Dr. Tasleem?s second discovery in dermatology: first being discovery of new sign in dermatology, ?Tasleem?s water jet sign? which was published in Polish dermatology Journal in 2015.
