Urdu Academy concludes seminar with valedictory function
Aligarh, January 11: The Centre for Professional Development of Urdu Teachers (Urdu Academy), Aligarh Muslim University in collaboration with National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language (NCPUL), Ministry of Human Resource Development today conducted the valedictory function of the three-day national seminar on ?Sir Syed Ahmad Khan and his Vision? at the Sir Syed Academy.
Professor Akhtraul Wasey (Vice Chancellor, Maulana Azad University) who attended the function as the chief-guest said that Sir Syed was a visionary, who wanted to take the country to progress through modern science, education and intellectual development.
He added that Sir Syed wrote books on the interpretations of the Holy Quran and Bible and his works were applauded in the western and eastern cultures. ?AMU has been the centre of Urdu language and literature and the university has produced writers of colossal stature whose works have been followed all over the country and the world,? said Prof Wasey.
Presiding over the function, Prof Mohd Zahid (Dean, Faculty of Arts) said that the papers presented in the three-day seminar have provided invaluable details which were not researched earlier. ?It is hoped that these kinds of seminars will continue to take place in AMU,? he added.
Prof Farhathullah Khan (Emeritus Professor, AMU) said that Sir Syed stressed on rationalism, secularism, empiricism and dynamism. ?Sir Syed exhorted that if people do not move with the time, all their values would be overthrown,? said Prof Khan.
Prof Mohammad Hashim (Chairperson, Department of Urdu), Dr Syed Raza Haider (Director, Ghalib Institute, New Delhi) and Mr Kamran Ziauddin (Old Boys Association, Dubai) also spoke on the occasion.
Presenting the seminar?s report, Dr Rahat Abrar (Director, Urdu Academy) said that the objective behind starting the seminar on January 8 was to highlight the ?Foundation Day? of the Mohammedan Anglo Oriental College. He stressed the need of a yearly celebration of the ?Foundation Day?.
Dr Mushtaq Sadaf conducted the programme, while Dr Zubair Shadab Khan proposed the vote of thanks.
