16-MAR-2018: University Eco-Club and Electricity Department start ?Energy Conservation Cell? programme
Aligarh, March 16: As a part of Aligarh Muslim University?s (AMU) commitment to foster a more sustainable and an environmentally friendly society, the University Eco-Club in collaboration with the Electricity Department has started the ?Energy Conservation Cell? programme which will continue till April 10, 2018.
With a symposium at the Strachey Hall, the University Eco-Club also started ?Energy Conservation Drive?2018? in which Prof M Rihan (Member-in-Charge, Electricity Department) and Dr Faiza Abbasi (HRDC, AMU) delivered speeches on energy-conservation.
Prof M Rihan spelt out ways to minimize electricity consumption in residential halls, classrooms, offices and departments. He added that the unwanted extra electricity charges should be done away with so that the saved money can be used for other development purposes in the university.
Prof Rihan pointed out that the university administration has developed a role model for the whole country on energy-conservation by setting up a solar-panel system.
Dr Faiza Abbasi spoke on renewable and non-renewable energy sources. She pointed out that people should make individual efforts to conserve energy.
Dr M Arshad Bari (President, University Eco Club) said that since the university pays huge electricity bills, it is high time students and staff, start conserving energy. He added that Energy-Conservation-Cells have been established in all halls of residences in the university.
Over 300 students participated in the symposium.
