19-MAR-2018: AMU AUV Club participates in SAUVC, Singapore
Aligarh, March 19: Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) Club, Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) participated in the finals of Singapore Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Challenge (SAUVC) held at the Singapore Polytechnic, Singapore.
AUV Club consisting of AMU engineering students, Sadique Saleemullah Khan, Anuj Kumar Varshney, Nived Suresh, Rohit Sengar, Rajat Sharma, Khan Saad bin Hasan, Adamya Varshney, Syed Jawad Akhtar, Atul Chaudhary and M Marzooq Ur Rahman with faculty advisor, Dr Saleem Anwar Khan (Associate Professor, Dept of Mechanical Engineering, AMU) was selected for the finals from among 48 participating teams of various Asian and European universities.
AMU team?s vehicle went through the rounds of leak proofing, oil proofing and balancing underwater followed by a race to reach the finals.
Meanwhile, the team vehicle was also declared as the ?most-liked? vehicle of the competition as its photographs managed a whooping 26k+ likes on social media within two-days.
?The students experienced a great exposure in unmanned underwater robotics by competing in this international competition and they have surely learned to perform better,? said Dr Saleem Anwar Khan.
The team members have thanked AMU Vice Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor and the university administration for the support. They have also thanked AMU alumnus, Mr Taher Madraswala (CEO, Open Silicon).
The SAUVC competition challenges student teams to build an AUV which can perform simulations of tasks operational AUVs need to perform. The speed and accuracy at which the AUV performs tasks decides the winner of the competition. This was AMU?s first participation in the event.
