Dept of Geography starts ?Capacity Building Programme?
Aligarh, April 3: Department of Geography, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in collaboration with Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi began a two-week ?Capacity Building Programme? in which resource persons from areas such as geography, economics, political science, psychology, management, education, statistics, linguistics, sociology and law are present.
On the occasion, the Chief-Guest, Prof Virendra Kumar Shrivastava (Prof Emeritus, Rani Durgavati University Jabalpur and former President, IGU Commission on Commercial Activities) praised AMU and its Department of Geography for having a rapport of academic excellence throughout the country. He said that the department has produced stalwarts, who are known for their contributions to geography in India and abroad.
Presenting remarks on the conference, Guest-of Honour, Prof M Shakir (Dean, Faculty of Science) highlighted the scope of this program in the era of interdisciplinary research. He further discussed the importance of training participants in quantitative and qualitative techniques of social research with elements of academic writing and publication.
Prof Nizamuddin Khan (Course Director) said that capacity building is a process of enriching the capability of young faculty members by imparting lectures on conceptual and theoretical framework of different research themes and it is hoped that that this programme will leave the participants with new visions, thoughts, methodologies and paradigms.
Delivering the welcome address, Prof Ateeque Ahmad (Chairperson, Department of Geography) stressed the need of modern qualitative, quantitative, behavioural and technological methods.
Two books were also released on the occasion. They are ?Rural Markets and Rural Transformation: The Changing Rural Realities? by Dr Muqeet khan, Prof Nizamuddin Khan and Mrs. Tanveer Asif and ?Indian Gardian Knot? by Dr Sumit Kumar, Prof Nizamuddin Khan and Dr Ashish Kumar.
Prof S Naushad Ahmad proposed the vote of thanks, while Dr Mumtaz Ahmad, conducted the programme.
Participants from the states of Kerala, Karnataka, West Bengal, Maharastra, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh are attending the programme.
