16-APR-2018: Alumni team beats AMU Hockey team 3-2 in nail-biting finish
Aligarh, April 16: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Alumni and Guest Players team led by Syed Jalaluddin Rizvi, former Olympian defeated the AMU Hockey team 3-2 in an exhibition match held at the University Hockey Grass Ground.
Alumni team players, Altaf ur Rahman scored two goals and Danish Mushtaba, former Olympian who has also donned India colours scored one goal. Naved Ali Khan and Jitesh scored one goal each for the AMU team.
The Alumni team also had Zafar Iqbal, former India Hockey team captain and Olympian.
While giving the Inamur Rahman Trophy to the winning captain, Syed Jalaluddin Rizvi and Juniad Zia Trophy to the University Hockey Team captain, Naved Ali Khan; AMU Vice Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor said that these matches should be played on regular basis to motivate students for making sports careers. He added that exhibition matches with sports veterans also provide students with opportunities of interacting with them.
Prof S Amjad Ali Rizvi (Secretary Games Committee), Mr Arshad Mahmood (Assistant Director, Physical Education), Mr Anis Ur Rahman Khan (Deputy Director, Physical Education) and Mr Sarmad Mahmood (General Secretary, SSS, Sports) were also present on the occasion.
