19-APR-2018: ART Centre records second successful birth through IVF treatment
Aligarh, April 19: There is no need for childless couples from low-income families to emotionally drain themselves because of the financial burden involved in conceiving a child through the In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) treatments as the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC) of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), the only public hospital in Western Uttar Pradesh with this facility offers the Infertility Treatment affordable to common people.
The Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) Centre, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of JNMC recorded the second successful delivery with a baby boy born through the IVF process. Earlier, a girl was born with this procedure at the hospital. JNMC officials informed that six women undergoing the IVF treatment have also conceived.
Dr Shaheen Anjum (Incharge, ART Centre, JNMC) said that the ART Centre at JNMC similar to ART Centre of AIIMS in New Delhi in terms of success rate and facilities.
Dr Shaheen further said that ART Centre at JNMC offers subsidized rates of the treatment which are more than 50 percent lower that the expensive private hospitals and clinics in bigger cities.
She also said that the IVF treatments at JNMC are not possible without the sustained efforts of Professor Tariq Mansoor (AMU Vice Chancellor), Professor Tabassum Shahab (Pro Vice Chancellor), Prof S C Sharma (Principal, JNMC), Prof Tamkeen Rabbani (Chairperson, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology), Prof Seema Hakim, Prof Noor Afshan, Prof Imam Bano, Prof Nishat Akhtar, Prof Zehra Mohsin, Dr Nasreen Noor, Dr Shazia Parveen, Dr Nazia Ishrat, Dr Dalia Rafat and Dr Deeba.
