28-APR-2018: Books released at AMU
Aligarh April 28: Eminent fiction writer, Prof Tariq Chhatari, Department of Urdu, Aligarh Muslim University today released the collection of writings of Professor Asghar Wajahat, a noted writer, playwright and former teacher of Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, at a book release function, organized by the Cultural Education Centre, AMU. The collection of Prof Wajahat?s publications has been edited by Dr Pallav of the Hindu College, University of Delhi.
On this occasion, two books of Prof Asif Naqvi, titled Ajeeb Din The and Baadhein (which is a translation of August Wilson?s play Fences), were also released.
Addressing on the occasion, Prof Tariq Chhatari discussed the historical aspects in Prof Wajahat?s stories while Prof Arif Rizvi reminisced his childhood days which he had spent together with Prof Wajahat in Fatehpur and Aligarh.
Prof Mohammad Asim Siddiqui, Chairman, Department of English underlined the important features of Prof Wajahat?s stories with special reference to short stories, especially dwelling on his biting humour in his mini stories.
Prof Shambhunath Tiwari, Department of Hindi presented a detailed panorama of Prof Wajahat?s literary works, mentioning that he has artfully touched the contemporary issues in his stories and plays and made an effort to bring the reader face to face with harsh realities.
Prof Ashiq Ali and Prof Asif Naqvi shared their personal experiences with Prof Wajahat and highlighted the marked attributes of his stories.
Dr Pallav attempted to underline reasons that worked as an impetus for him to bring the collection out. He also shared his closeness with the author.
Earlier, Prof F S Sherani, Coordinator of the Cultural Education Centre, welcomed the guests.
Prof Siraj Ajmali conducted the programme. University Debating and Literary Club President, Dr Mohibul Haque, along with senior faculty members and students, was also present on the occasion.
