01-MAY-2018: MURC organises 129th Annual Horse Show
Aligarh, May 1: The Muslim University Riding Club (MURC) of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) organised its 129th Annual Horse Show in which student riders astride some of the finest horses displayed their skills in various equestrian disciplines.
On the occasion, AMU Vice Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor, who was the Chief-Guest, launched the official website of the MURC and named the five newly bought thoroughbred horses as Stella, Vincent, Venus, Majestic and Sultan. He inaugurated the event by releasing balloons and pigeons.
Welcoming the guests, Dr Wasif Mohammad Ali (President, MURC) briefed the guests about MURC history. He said that the Riding club has an over 100 years-old legacy. ?The club started when Sir Syed Ahmad Khan asked some landlords to send their horses to the college, so that the students could learn the art of horsemanship,? said Dr Wasif adding that the proposal was accepted and horse riding started in 1889.
ADJ Naseem Ahmad attended the function as the Guest-of Honour. Prof Syed Amjad Ali Rizvi (Hony Secretary, Games Committee) and other teachers of the university were also present at the event.
The horse show started with a march past and a standing salute to the Vice Chancellor followed by musical ride, girls hacks, musical chairs, ball and bucket, individual tent pegging, ring and lemon, carrot cutting, show jumping, pole bending, team tent pegging, confined tent pegging, double tent pegging, cross tent pegging, table jump and fancy dress.
Tanseer Alam (Captain, Riding Club), Talat Bin Sahab, M Javed, Zaid Mehboob, Areeb Salman, Abdul Wasi, Umar Mohammad, M Arham Khan, Safi Abbas Kazmi, Sufia Khalid, Shagla Parvez with other University students riders performed in various events.
Kulsum Salahuddin and M Maaz Khan Sherwani conducted the programme, while Tanseer Alam proposed the vote of thanks.
