AMU Biotechnology Sub-Disc Centre was placed at 2nd Rank in the Country
Aligarh, May 21: The Distributed Information Sub-Centre (DISC) of interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has been awarded Incentive award
for Research in bioinformatics from Department of Biotechnology Ministry of science and technology, Govt. of India and was also ranked at Second position among 50 SUB-DISC centres in the country as informed by Coordinator Prof. Asad U Khan.
The Biotechnology Information System Network (BTISnet) of the Department of Biotechnology is spread across the country with more than 170 institutions.
Distributed information Sub-Centre (DISC) of Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit was established at AMU in the academic year 1989-90, which provides opportunities to the M.Sc. /M.Phi!. /Ph.D. students for study/research in the area of Bioinformatics.
Presently DISC is fully equipped with a dedicated FTTH connection. The DISC also organizes annual workshops on bioinformatics for the benefit of research students and young faculties from within and outside the university.
Moreover, Prof Asad and his group has developed new tools, web servers and databases to strengthen the research in the field of modem biology and bioinformatics.
