08-AUG-2018: Dept of Amraz-e-Niswan-wa-Atfal observes World Breastfeeding Week
Aligarh, August 8: To create awareneess and encourge breastfeeding 'World Breastfeeding Week' was observed at the Department of Amraz-e-Niswan-wa-Atfal, Hakim Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College (AKTC), Aligarh Muslim University.
During the week-long activities, the department organised a host of events such as visual aids programmes, awareness campaigns, pamphlet distribution, poster-making competitions and special lectures on the theme 'Breastfeeding: Foundation of Life'.
"Students and patients were sensitised about how breast feeding leads to higher IQ, lesser allergies, and better health and weight gain in infants during the week-long observations," said Prof Syeda Aamena Naaz, Chairperson, Department of Amraz-e-Niswan-wa-Atfal.
Delivering a lecture on 'Feeding of Healthy Newborn Babies', the AMU Health Officer, Dr Ali Jafar Abedi said, "Besides providing nutrients, vitamins and proteins, breast milk also has anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-parasitic properties, which are not found in bottled milk."
Dr Diwan Israr Khan, Dr M Anas, Dr Fahmeeda Zeenat, Dr Abiha Ahmad khan and Dr Saman Anees conducted the various events during the week.
