27-SEP-2018: AMU signs MoU with National Institute of Solar Energy
Aligarh, September 27: Today, National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE) ( an autonomous Institute of Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India), has signed an Memorandum of Understanding with Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) which will benefit both institutions to work on the overall promotion of solar power in the country.
The MoU was signed during the inaugural function of three day National Seminar on Grid Connected Solar PV Plants 27-29 September under TEQIP-III , at Auditorium University Polytechnic, AMU.
Presiding over the function the AMU Vice Chancellor Prof Tariq Mansoor said it is moment of pride that AMU has successfully installed and commissioned 4.9 MWp Solar PV Plants in the Campus. He said the MoU signed with NISE will pave the way for exchange of knowledge, man power and joint research project in the field of solar energy and new product development.
Chief Patron Prof Mansoor said renewable energy is the future and we are committed to the Green Project. Assuring full support to the department of Electricity, he reiterated that university will soon introduce MTech and Post Graduate Diploma in Solar Energy.
Chief Guest Dr Arun K Tripathi (Director General, NISE),said that the solar power is mainly being set up on roof tops and on ground. The cost of solar generation has come down to Rs. 2.50 per unit as compared to Rs 17.50 per unit in 2010. Hence, today it is very economical and it competes with the cost of power generation from conventional sources.
He praised AMU team for taking lead by installing 3 MW solar farm, which is unique plant in any academic Institution in the country.
AMU Pro Vice Chancellor Prof M H Beg and Guest of Honour said that today, our civilisation stands at a critical juncture and we are on the cusp of adopting clean energy at a scale never seen before. But for renewable power to continue its rapid advancement, the right decisions need to be taken.
Guest of Honour Prof RK Pandey (Director General, National Power Training Institute) said that it is paramount to have academia industry Linkage in the field of Connected Solar PV Plants. He said the stupendous growth of AMU in the field of Green Project has prompted NPTI to have Memorandum of Understanding with AMU soon.
Prof BH Khan (Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology), elaborating the utility of the seminar said that renewable energy is a global phenomenon on the upswing and for the foreseeable future, its growth is set to accelerate
In his welcome address Dr. Mohd Rihan (Member-in-Charge, Electricity), mentioned that AMU is proud of the fact that it has contributed to national solar mission in a substantial way and the successful implementation of these projects is serving as a role model for other academic institutions.
Prof Imtiaz Ashraf (chairperson, Electrical Engineering Department) paid the vote of thanks and emphasised that with the right investments in green technologies, India is well positioned to achieve renewable energy targets.
