10-OCT-2018: Pediatric Cath Lab established at JNMC
ALIGARH October 10: Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University has achieved another milestone as a dedicated Pediatric Cardiac Catheterisation Lab has been installed in the newly constructed OBG-Cardiac Block of the Trauma Centre.
The Cath Lab, dedicated for pediatric cardiac interventions, is the first in any public sector hospital in UP and has been set up under Pediatric Cardiac Evaluation and Cardiac Surgery Unit (FCE-CS Unit) project granted by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India under Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakaram, National Health Mission.
Professor Tabassum Shahab, former Pro-Vice Chancellor, AMU and Convener of this project, said that the credit for the establishment of this lab goes to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor, who earlier sent the proposal as Principal, JNMC and later followed it up with the Ministry, relentlessly.
Prof Shahab said that 48 cases of pediatric cardiac intervention have been performed in the lab free of cost, which include PDA, ASD and VSD device closures and interventions like Balloon Pulmonary Valvotomy (BPV), Balloon Aortic Valvotomy (BAV) and Coarctation of Aorta dilatation. Besides this, 28 diagnosis cath study have been made in the lab so far.
Prof MH Beg, Pro-Vice Chancellor, AMU congratulated the team, adding that the Pediatric Cath Lab is a significant development in setting up advanced Pediatric Cardiac Care at JN Medical College and Hospital. He appreciated the services of Dr Azam Haseen, Associate Professor, Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery, Dr Shaad Abqari, Assistant Professor, Pediatrics and their team to alleviate the suffering of poor and hapless children from marginalized section of society.
