20-OCT-2018: ICSSR Director interacts with AMU faculty members
ALIGARH October 20: Dr Upendra Choudhury, Director, Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi urged the faculty members of the Aligarh Muslim University to prepare scientific major and minor projects and seek financial support from the ICSSR under the "Impactful Policy Research in Social Science" (IMPRESS) scheme to be launched by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. Dr Chaudhary also invited senior faculty members to apply for national level senior fellowship programmes implemented by the ICSSR.
He was addressing AMU teachers at an interactive programme held on the initiative of AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor and Dean, Faculty of Social Science, Prof Akbar Husain.
Addressing the faculty members from various departments of study at AMU, Dr Chaudhury informed that the IMPRESS scheme contains research projects in 12 domains including State and Democracy, Urban Transformation, Media, Culture and Society, Employment Skills and Rural Transformation, Governance, Innovation and Public Policy, Health and Environment Science and Education, Politics, Law and Economics. He said that AMU teachers, not only from the Faculty of Social Sciences but also from science, life science, agricultural science, commerce, law and medicine faculties, should come forward with viable research projects and obtain more and more grant from the ICSSR.
Dr Chaudhury said that AMU is funded by ICSSR through different academic programmes including research methodology, capacity building research projects, Post-Doctoral and Doctoral fellowships. He said that during the last academic session, AMU scholars received largest number of post-doctoral fellowships, even surpassing Jawaharlal Nehru University.
He said that AMU?s Department of Geography received a grant of Rs 9.40 lakh under capacity building programme, Rs 10 lakh for a major project and Rs 2 lakh for holding a conference. Similarly, the Interdisciplinary Department of Remote Sensing and GIS Applications also received Rs 2.50 lakh grant for organizing national conference during the last session.
