20-OCT-2018: Commemorative events held on Sir Syed Ahmad Khan
ALIGARH October 20: The Raleigh Literary Society, Department of English, Aligarh Muslim University organized a skit, "Sir Syed Visits Us", to pay homage to Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, founder of the Aligarh Muslim University, on his 201st birth anniversary.
The skit, aptly highlighting the significance of the founder of the University, was written and directed by Aleena Khan, assisted by Faraz Zuberi and Tuba. The cast consisted of Aleena, Faraz, Maria Shahid, Hammad Hasan, Akif Saeed, Syed Muntaza, Ali Akbar, Arisha, Syeda Zainab, Ayesha, Khadija, Fazal Rahman, Abdul Bari, Zainab Ansari, Hena, Heba, Nupur, Mrinalini, Fahad, Hammad Hassan, Omar Hussain and Saif Haider.
Earlier, a quiz competition was also held in which students from various faculties and departments participated.
The program was held under the guidance of teachers-in-charge, Dr Aysha Munira Rasheed and Dr Vibha Sharma. Prof Roomana Siddiqui, Chairperson, Department of Psychology, Prof Rizwan Khan, Prof Sami Rafiq, Dr Alisha Ibkar, Dr Boopathi, Dr Sharjeel Chowdury, Dr Nazia Hassan and Dr Sadia, Women?s College attended the program.
Meanwhile, the AMU Girls' School, organized a number of literary, cultural and sports events including essay writing, poetry recitation, card making, portrait making, greeting card making, salad making and calligraphy competitions, besides inter-Hall sports tournament.
Ayesha Maryam and Shagufta Firdos Ansari of AMU Girls? School won the first prize in the inter-school essay writing competition while Mohd Shamsuddin of Syed Hamid Senior Secondary School and Sadiq Kaleem of AMU City School won the seond and third prizes respectively. Nitin Vashishtha of STS School was given the consolation prize.
In the school level poetry recitation event, Maida, Shifa Yameen and Anam Azam of Class V won the first, second and third prizes respectively, while in the calligraphy competition, Fiza Zahid and Nazish Nazm (VII-B) won the first and second prizes respectively, while Divya Rajput (VIII-C) and Afreen (VIII-B) won the third prize and Shabeynoor (VIII-B) and Kashaf Raza (VIII-A) ot special prizes.
In the portrait making competition, Uddeshya Sharma of AMU City School won the first prize while Mohd Fardin of AMU City School and Nikhat of AMU Girls' School shared the second prize and Zoya Iqbal of Senior Secondary School (Girls) got the third prize. Sabiha Khan of AMU Girls' School and Neha Kumari of ABk School (Girls) were given consolation prize.
In the school level greeting card making competition (Group A), Tehreem, Yusra and Aaliya won the first prize while Kulsum Zehra and Anam Raees received the second prize and Insha Zubair got the third prize. Awantika Singh and Khadija Nawed received consoltation prizes.
In the Group B, Aaliya Raza and Warisha won the first prize, Aqsa Mustaqeem and Shifa Parveen, second prize and Aqsa , third prize. Shifa Naaz got the consolation prize.
In the salad making competition, Shaima Ayaz and Umme Hani Hareem received the first prize, Zoya Amjad, Shruti Sharma and Vishakha, second and Lashka Rajpoot, third prize. Sejal Varshney, Sundus Parveen and Umama Radia got the consolation prize.
In the sports events, the Green House emerged as the overall champion while the Blue House won Table Tennis and Yoga, Red House won Badminton, Kho-Kho and Cricket, Green House won Kabaddi and Basket Ball and the Yellow House won the Volley Ball tournaments.
