21-OCT-2018: Prof Sami Rafiq attends 9th Annual Conference of SHEN (Spiritual Heritage Education Network)
Aligarh, October 21: The 9th Annual Conference of SHEN (Spiritual Heritage Education Network) titled Cultivating the Spirit of Love was organised in Renison University College, Waterloo, Ontario on 29th and 30th September 2018.
Professor Sami Rafiq made a presentation titled Cosmic Love: Invisibility and Loss in the 21st Century, in which she dwelt at length on how climate change and destruction of environment are the result of the erosion of the spiritual relationship between humans and the universe.
The founder of SHEN Dr Shiv Talwar and author of the book The Common Ground: A Unified Basis of Existence spoke about the importance of breathing for good health and spiritual well being.
His presentation titled Want to be all loving and compassionate? Just Breathe! was very powerful and enriching.
Christine Grauer's presentation The Subconscious and the Feeling of Love drew on the field of psychology to illustrate the healing power of love and kindness.
Yasuo Fujii from Japan and the founder of Wakeners Foundation an organisation for world peace, spoke about how an attitude of love and kindness towards each and all, enriches our life and empowers us.
Dr Atif Khalil a Professor of Religious Studies enlightened everyone with details about Rumi's life and thought.
Other papers and sessions dealt with ways to enrich one's life through active mindfulness and positive thinking.
There were people from different religious backgrounds in the audience which strengthened the message of love that the conference had brought up. All the those present took part in the sessions of meditation and contemplation. The seating arrangement of the presenters and audience in a circle brought them closer together as channels for the energising of power universal love, peace and harmony.
At the close of the conference Sashar Zarif a multi-disciplinary performing artist, educator and researcher in the field of dance, performed a Sufi dance. The pounding of his drum, foot movements and utterance calling to (Yaar) God the Beloved resonated with every soul present.
