14-NOV-2018: World Penumonia Day observed
ALIGARH November 14: To mark the World Pneumonia Day '2018, the Department of Pediatrics, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University organized an awareness programme for common people. Addressing on the occasion, Professor Farzana K Beig, Chairman of the Department, said that Pneumonia is the number one cause of death in under-5 years' children as one child dies of pneumonia every 20 second.
Prof Beig said pointed out that Pneumonia is preventable and curable if detected early. She said that there are some easily detectable signs like fast-breathing and fever with cough.
Adding that according to a WHO report, 16% children under 5 years of age died of pneumonia in the year 2015, Prof Beig said that the majority of these deaths occurred in India and other developing countries. She said that breastfeeding, immunization, avoiding environmental pollution and good nutrition were effective preventive measures to check Pneumonia while early detected pneumonia was easily treatable at home.
Interns of the Department including Dr Mamoon Rashid, Dr Rehan Mateen, Dr Quyamuddin, Dr Faizul Haque, Dr Divya Varshney, Dr Shahnawaz, Dr Gavendra Rana, along with Resident doctors Dr Asad and Dr Atif actively participated in the event.
