07-DEC-2018: Breakthrough procedure started at JNMC
ALIGARH December 7: The PCE CS Unit, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University has made a breakthrough in the field of Paediatric Interventional Cardiology by starting Balloon Aortic Valvoplasty, which is a complicated procedure performed in the Cath Lab to correct valves deformed from birth.
Dr Mirza Mohd Kamran told that the most important part of this procedure is that heart needs to be under pacemaker only for a few seconds and then the balloon is inflated across the valve to open them. "The procedure is quite complicated, especially in small kids and needs expert hands to accomplish the goal", he added.
Dr Shaad Abqari and Dr Mirza Mohd Kamran, along with their team members comprising Dr Shamim Gauhar, cardiac anesthetist, Dr Shehzad, Pediatric ICU expert, Arifa, Nahid, Devender and Arif, Cath lab staff performed this procedure.
Dr Abqari, who is also the Nodal Officer, Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) under National Health Mission, said that three successful procedures of BAV have been done at the newly established unit with no cost to the patients.
Prof Tabassum Shahab, Convenor of the project, congratulated the team members on their achievement and said that this scheme will help poor patients, suffering from deformed aortic valves.
