11-DEC-2018: Centre of Cardiology organizes workshop on Arrhythmia
ALIGARH December 11: The Centre of Cardiology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University organised a special workshop on arrhythmias. The patients with abnormally fast heart rates, including two cases of atrial flutter were given treatment.
Special guest, Dr Rajiv Sharma (MG Medical College, Jaipur) informed that Arrhythmias are disorders involving heart rate abnormalities. He said that treatment for Arrhythmias involves confirmation of clinical diagnosis made on surface ECG by invasive Electrophysiological Study (EPS) which involves placing several catheters inside the heart to record electrical signals from inside it.
According to him, after correctly identifying the type of arrhythmia the abnormal circuitry, responsible for it, is destroyed with the help of Radiofrequency Ablation.
Prof Asif Hasan, Director, Centre of Cardiology, JN Medical College, AMU informed that a total of twenty cases of Arrhythmias have been reported and successfully treated at JN Medical College till now, including six in the workshop.
He said that such workshops are being organised at regular intervals in Cath lab at JN Medical College as there are a large number of patients of this category. Also a special Arrhythmia Clinic for dealing with these cases is run weekly on Monday from 9 AM in OPD 14 of JN Medical College, Prof Hasan added.
Prof MU Rabbani, Dr Malik Mohd Azharuddin and Dr Rafi Anwar actively participated in the organization of the workshop.
