27-DEC-2018: JNMC to provide 'Bedaquiline' free of cost to patients
Aligarh, December 27: In a move that will bring huge relief to patients suffering from Multi-Drug Resistant (MDR) Tuberculosis (TB), the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University will provide the expensive drug-resistant tuberculosis drug, 'Bedaquiline' free to selected patients undergoing treatment at the hospital. A six-month long course of the drug would otherwise cost over Rs 65, 000 in other hospitals.
Launching Bedaquiline at JNMC, Prof S C Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Medicine said that he stands proud that JNMC will provide the drug free of cost to TB patients undergoing treatment. "Bedaquiline is billed as a potential wonder drug solution to treat multi-drug-resistant TB," pointed Prof Sharma.
