29-DEC-2018: Padma Bhushan Prof Talwar conferred with Life Time Achievement Award at AMU
Aligarh, December 29: "In a diverse university such as Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), we need to focus on multidisciplinary research, as any academic institution is recognized by research and incubation and hence we are building a proper infrastructure and culture to promote and facilitate the research work", said Prof Tariq Mansoor (Vice Chancellor AMU) who was the Chief Guest on the occasion of inaugural function of a three-day International Conference on "Future Diagnostic, Therapeutic and Theranostics Modalities" organized by Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit (IBU),held today at JNMC Auditorium.
Later, Prof Tariq Mansoor on behalf of ICIBU-18 conferred Life Time Achievement Award (LTAA) to Padma Bhushan Prof GP Talwar and presented him memento and a citation.
Guest of Honor Prof GP Talwar (President, Talwar Foundation, Faridabad), who is an internationally recognized scientist has many National and International awards under his belt, notably his research contribution have led to understanding of the nurture of immune deficit in leprosy patient and to development of an immune-prophylactic cum immune-therapeutic vaccine against leprosy which is approved by the Drugs Controller General of India (DGCI) and US FDA thanked the Vice Chancellor and Organizing Committee of ICIBU-18 for recognizing his services and conferring him with LTAW.
Prof Talwar talking about his latest research on cancer, invited students from AMU to be part of his lab research on subject of interest. He also released a conference souvenir on the occasion.
Prof Qayyum Husain (Dean Faculty of Life Sciences) in his address congratulated the ICIBU-18 organizing committee for efforts in bringing pertinent discussion on the table and showed confidence that conference has brought together scientists and experts for fruitful deliberations that will provide good impetus to AMU young researchers for more in-depth thinking and new findings.
The Coordinator IBU and Convener of the Conference Prof Asad U khan in his welcome address highlighted the genesis of the event; to provide a platform for young students and faculty members to interact with experienced speakers for future collaborations. He also shared about the growth of department and the support of the administration and government for supporting many research and projects.
Pro Vice Chancellor AMU, Prof MH Beg and Prof Mohammad Owais (IBU) were also present on the dais.
Dr Waseem A Siddiqui (Associate Professor) paid vote of thanks and Ayesha Z Beg (Research Scholar) conducted the program.
