ALIGARH, February 11: Dr Sayed Rafi Ahsan Rizvi delivered K A Nizami Memorial lecture on "The Quran: Allah's greatest gift, understanding scientifically" at K A Nizami Centre for Quranic Studies, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
In his lecture, Dr Rizvi delineated the basics of Universe, scientific theories, beginning and development of the Universe, Space-time: Tracks, Creation of life (Quranic Insight), Universe retreat: The Day of Qiyaama and Allah's Judgment, final closure of the Universe and Allah's likely Grand Design. He emphasized that the Quranic verses indicate that the Universe is an "uninterrupted sequence from origin until the end" within a specific time span.
Dr Rizvi, a retired technocrat, (Ministry of Mines and Metals, New Delhi) said that chance has no role in Allah's governance and everything is preplanned. "Allah's creations be it a 'leaf of a particular plant, animal stripes, finger prints, sand grains, landscapes etc are never identical yet similar in their respective classes. Trillions and trillions of combinations yet each is unique, speaks volumes of a definite pattern and format of the Universe bestowed by an unseen 'Designer', he said.
In his presidential remarks Dr Zaki Kirmani said that interpretation of Quran in the light of science has its limitations as Quran is final book whereas the theories of science keep on changing.
The programme was conducted by Mr Arshad Iqbal. Dr Nazeer Ahmad Ab Majeed felicitated Dr Rizvi and Dr Kirmani with mementos.
A large number of faculty members and research scholars attended the lecture.
