05-MAR-2019: Six-day workshop on 'Research Methods and Data Analysis using Statistical Software Package' underway in AMU
Aligarh, March 5: "The present scenario is cut-throat digital competition era where the need for understanding right ways to present statistical outcomes has become imperative to move ahead," said Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor M H Beg while presiding over the inaugural function of the six-day workshop on 'Research Methods and Data Analysis using Statistical Software Package' organised by the Department of Library and Information Science.
He spoke on the importance of analytics knowledge and how to make result understandable.
Prof Beg emphasised that the university ranking systems evaluate and compare universities on measures of academic and research performance. "Cash rewards and monetary incentives allotted to faculty members and students should be increased for publishing papers in Scopus and Web of Science, which are among the best abstract and citation databases of research literature, quality web sources and patents," he said.
Prof Beg added that it is hoped that this workshop will provide an insight into the problems faced by research scholars and open up them to new innovative ways using the best methodologies.
The Chief Guest, Prof Akbar Husain (Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences) said that this workshop will give the participants a sound understanding on fundamentals of research, methodologies of research, tools and techniques of research, descriptive statistics and exploratory data, hypotheses testing, correlation and regression analysis and use of the statistical software packages such as SPSS and MINITAB.
Giving the introductory remarks, Prof Naushad Ali P M (Department of Library and Information Science) emphasised the importance of publishing research work in reputed journals.
Delivering the welcome address, Dr Sudharma Haridasan (Chairperson, Department of Library and Information Science) spoke about various research methods and data analysis tools used for producing quality research work.
Dr Mohammad Nazim (Coordinator of the Workshop) proposed the vote of thanks, while Dr Muzamil Mushtaq conducted the programme.
Dr M Massom Raza, Dr Nishat Fatima, Dr Mehtab Alam and Dr Shah Mohd Khan also spoke on the occasion. The workshop will conclude on March 8.
