05-MAR-2019: Begum Sultan Jahan Hall organizes annual festivals
ALIGARH March 5: The Begum Sultan Jahan Hall of residence for girls in Aligarh Muslim University organized its annual literary and cultural festival "SANAT 2K19" in which a number of events were organized. The literary and cultural activities included essay writing competition, debate, quiz competition, extempore, Baitbazi, treasure hunt, Rangoli, face painting, Spin the Yarn, poetry recitation, Mono Acting, Ad mad, Graffiti, Food without Fire, Best out of waste and singing competitions.
Noted Pediatrician, Dr Hameeda Tariq graced the valedictory programme as chief guest while Mrs Parveen Beg, wife of AMU PVC Prof M H Beg and Prof Naima Khatoon, Principal, Women's College were the guests of honor.
Welcoming the guests, Prof Asma Ali, Provost of the hall, highlighted the achievements of the residents and developmental works carried out in the Begum Sultan Jahan Hall.
Essay competition was judged by Prof Seemin Hasan while Quiz and Debate competitions were judged by Pof Naima Khatoon and Mr Faisal Nafees, Principal, STS School. Dr Hameeda Tariq, Prof Asma Ali, Prof Sheeba Hamid and Prof Farrukh Arjumandjudged the events Treasure Hunt, Pictionary, Rangoli and Face painting whereas
Dr Rahat Abrar, Director, Urdu Academy and Dr Mushtaq Sadaf decided the winners for Extempore and Bait Bazi, Dr Salma Shaheen judged Spin the Yarn and Dr Naghma Irfan judged Poetry Recitation and Mono Acting. Prof Sheeba and Dr Suboohi judged various events including Turn a Coat, Hairdo, poster making, paper dressing, dance and fashion show.
Hostel wardens Dr Nighat, Dr Tabassum and Dr Farheen, along with Ms Nargis and literary and cultural society secretaries, Ayesha Nasir Alavi and Noor Fatima and their associates worked hard to organize the three-day festival. Senior Hall, Fahmeena Shakeel proposed a vote of thanks.
In its sports festival "De Zest 2k19", Sarojini Naidu Hall bagged the first prize in Volleyball while Begum Sultan Jahan Hall team was declared runner up. In Kabaddi and Badminton, the Sarojini Naidu again emerged as winner by defeating Begum Sultan Jahan Hall teams and in Table Tennis, first prize went to Bibi Fatima Hall.
Earlier, Mrs Swasti Rao, wife of Aligarh SSP, Mr Akash Kulhari inaugurated the sports events along with the provost Prof Asma Ali.
Sports activities held during the festival included inter-hall matches of Volleyball, Chess, Badminton, Table-Tennis and Kabaddi and intra-Hall events like Kho-Kho, Three-legged Race, 100 M Race, Relay-Race, Basketball, Cricket, Tug of War, Carom, Musical Chair, etc.
Tug of War and Spoon and Lemon Race competitions were held for the staff members of the Hall administration.
Ms Ruksana (Sports Secretary), Ms Ilma Arif and Ms Jagriti Pathak (Joint Sports Secretaries), along with Ms Rushda and Ms Harim Fatima passionately worked for the success of the sports festival.
