12-MAR-2019: Women's College Celebrates Founder's Day
Aligarh, March 12: On its long awaited Founder?s Day-March 12, the Women's College Auditorium was beautifully decorated with lights and flowers.
The event was marked by the presence of Vice Chancellor Prof Tariq Mansoor as Chief Guest and Dr (Mrs) Hameeda Tariq, Paediatrician was the Guest of Honour. Prof Naima Khatoon, Principal, Women's College, Prof Shagufta Imtiyaz (Programme Co-ordinator), Dr Zeba Shireen (Provost, Abdullah Hall) were also present to grace the occasion.
Addressing the Founder's Day celebration, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor paid rich tributes to Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, popularly known as Papa Mian and his wife, Waheen Jahan Begum. He said that Sheikh Sahab had great courage and made invaluable services to the mankind and women.
In enlightening speech, he encouraged the girl students to get their equal share in the society by balancing their personal and professional life.
He said AMU is committed to gender equality and democratic rights. He also announced to provide financial assistance for the up-gradation of the academic infrastructural in lieu with conferences and seminars exclusively for the staff and students of Women's College.
He emphasised that AMU will be celebrating centenary celebrating in the year 2020 and has submitted special project for the women's education to the Ministry to Human Resources and Development .
While addressing the audience, Guest of Honour Dr (Mrs) Hameeda Tariq highlighted contributions of Sheikh Abdullah for promotion of female education. She observed that the importance of education as a liberating tool to changing the lives of women has been long accepted and from the very beginning of the movement of the Women's liberation, education has been identified as the major instrument.
Encouraging the students for pushing the social and economic boundaries, she said that Sheikh Abdullah translated his dream into action and his role as a champion of female education stands out as exemplary.
Prof Naima Khatoon (Principal, Women's College), in her welcome address briefly highlighted the recent achievements of its staff and students, said that Shaikh Abdullah responded to all new thoughts and ideas relating to the education of women and built a system of education that truly brought enlightenment and empowerment to women of this sub-continent.
She emphasised that infrastructural development and the immense success of the students in all the fields. She thanked Dr Zeba Sheeren for her extended hospitality of Abdullah Hall and also thanked the Vice Chancellor along with the whole Women's College fraternity for their unconditional support.
Along with the release of the College Magazine, the event also witnessed the book release of 'Growth of Indian Economy in the New Millennium' by Prof Zeba Sheeren, 'Urdu Zaban-o-Adab' compiled by Dr Afshan Parveen, 'Interrupting The Monologue: The Poetics and Politics of Motherhood' edited by Prof Nazia Hasan, and 'Teesri Tali Ka Saach' edited by Dr Shagufta Niyaz.
The awards for the achievements in academic excellence, sports and extra -curricular activities were given to various students in four segments. The first segment of award was presented by Prof Zakia Siddiqi while the second third and the fourth segments were presented by the Principal, Prof Naima Khatoon, Dr (Mrs) Hameeda Tariq and the Vice Chancellor Prof Tariq Mansoor.
Ms Vinita Choudhary received the Zakir Husain award and Ms Bushra Salahuddin received the Mrs MJ Haider Academic Memorial Award and Begum Roshan Masood Award while the Papa Mia Padam Bhushan Award (Best Girl) was obtained by Ms Juweiriya Rashid Zia (BA Hons).
