13-MAR-2019: Dept of English organises condolence meet
Aligarh, March 13: The Department of English, Aligarh Muslim University today paid tributes to the services rendered by late academician and eminent critic, Prof Masoodul Hasan (1928-2019) and expressed solidarity with the family of the deceased in a condolence meeting. Prof Masoodul Hasan breathed his last in Aligarh after suffering a cardiac arrest.
Reading the condolence resolution, Prof M Rizwan Khan, Chairman, Department of English pointed out that before joining AMU in 1949, Prof Masoodul Hasan taught at the Hamidiya College, Bhopal.
"Prof Masoodul Hasan has served as the Proctor, Secretary of AMU Teachers' Association and Member of Academic and Executive Councils. He has been the Chairperson, Department of English and Dean, Faculty of Arts," said Prof Khan adding that even after his retirement; Prof Masoodul Hasan was a regular visitor at the Maulana Azad Library, drawing upon latest advances in various fields of knowledge.
Prof Khan said that Prof Masoodul Hasan's major contribution consist facilitating research in English literary studies and he brought out several helpful bibliographies. "He wrote many books, some of them in last few years," pointed Prof Khan.
The deceased's wife, late Hamida Masood, and daughter, late Seema Masood had also taught in AMU.
He is survived by his son, Naved Masood (IAS 1978 batch, now retired; former Secretary, Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs), and three grandsons, viz., Dr Shad Naved (Academic), Sarim Naved (Lawyer) and Hamid Naved (studying in a National Law University).
