14-MAR-2019: World Kidney Day-2019 observations conclude
Aligarh, March 14: The World Kidney Day-2019 observations organised by the Department of Paediatrics, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) concluded with the Chief Guest, Dr Hameeda Tariq (renowned paediatrician) distributing prizes to the winners of various competitions.
Rehan Yusuf, Mukaddas Sameer and Zehra Ansari shared in the first prize in the poster making competition; while Laique Rehman, Affan Mujtaba Khan and Shivam Agarwal finished second and Sonali, Lubna and Sumbul secured the third place.
In the quiz competition, Samreen Shahid bagged the first prize, Paranay finished second and Shubhi Pathak secured the third place. Noor Ahmad Lari was declared the individual winner of the 2014 MBBS batch, Afifia Mughees was the winner of the 2015 batch, Uzma Parveen Khan triumphed to win in the 2016 batch and Anuj Shankar Varshney succeeded in 2017 batch. Anam Sarfaraz and Shabana Parveen were the winners among the nursing students.
On the occasion, Dr Hameeda Tariq said that global observations of the World Kidney Day are imperative to raise awareness on how to reduce frequency and impact of kidney diseases and its associated health problems. "I am happy to see that JNMC, AMU is organising more awareness campaigns and activities related to health issues than many other institutes", she added.
Speaking on the theme of the World Kidney Day 2019, 'Kidney Health for Everyone, Everywhere', Prof Kamran Afzal (Department of Paediatrics) informed: "As many as 850 million people across the world are suffering from kidney diseases. Chronic kidney diseases are in fact the 6th fastest growing cause of death, with 2.4 million deaths per year."
Dr Jyotsna Singh conducted the programme and proposed the vote of thanks.
