19-MAR-2019: 'Women, better at multi-tasking': Dr Hameeda Tariq at Dept of Political Science
Aligarh, March 19: Women are better at multi-tasking than men, said renowned paediatrician, Dr Hameeda Tariq during a special interactive session held in continuation with the International Women's Day celebrations at the Department of Political Science, Aligarh Muslim University.
Speaking on 'Women Empowerment: Prospects and Challenges', Dr Hameeda pointed out that studies and researches have revealed that young women seem to cope with switching their attention between tasks better than young men.
"Considering the wide multi-tasking role of women to manage personal life, household while simultaneously raising a family, they seem to be confident in doing it all with ease," she explained.
Delineating issues faced by women all over the world, Dr Hameeda spoke on women's access to education, employment opportunities, reproductive health and rights, maternal health, gender-based violence, child marriage and gender equality among other issues.
She also advised girls to develop a peer group around them to work as a cushion in time of crisis.
Dr Ghazala Khokhan from New York stressed on the need of a happy life for both women and men.
"Both women and men should express happiness and warmth. Women and men should play roles of primary caregivers, protectors and providers for each other," she said.
Prof Nigar Zuberi (Chairperson, Department of Political Science) delivered the welcome address. Dr Aftaab Alam and Dr Mohibul Haq also spoke on the occasion.
Dr Akbar Chawdhary conducted the programme, while Dr Adil Ghaznavi proposed the vote of thanks.
