25-MAR-2019: MHRD's LEAP project launched
Aligarh, March 25: The Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) Leadership for Academicians Programme (LEAP) launched under its PMMMNMTT Scheme has been sanctioned to the UGC Human Resource Development Centre, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
Director of UGC HRDC, AMU Professor Abdur Raheem Kidwai said that the LEAP project was launched by the HRD Ministry in November 2018 to cater to the need for constant knowledge updating and integration of academic and administrative leadership quality higher education institutions.
Prof Kidwai said that only 12 universities/ HEIs of the country including IITs and IIMs have been sanctioned the LEAP project so far. He said that under the able leadership of the Vice Chancellor Professor Tariq Mansoor the AMU has reached such a pinnacle of academic excellence that renders it fit to execute a prestigious project like LEAP.
Prof Kidwai maintained that AMU's ranking in the top 10 of NIRF, MHRD; top 5 in the Times Higher Education, UK and the 2nd best Indian University according to the US News Global Report are enviable benchmarks and are consequent upon the academic reforms and infrastructure development introduced by Prof Tariq Mansoor.
Dr Faiza Abbasi, Asst Director, UGC HRDC, AMU informed that the University of Michigan has agreed to collaborate with the AMU LEAP initiative for the one week overseas training. She also said that the CALEM (Centre for Academic Leadership and Education Management) project has been running successfully at the UGC HRD Centre, AMU since 2015 under the same scheme.
