29-MAR-2019: Prof Avijit Pathak delivers lecture in AMU
Aligarh, March 29: Prof Avijit Pathak from the Centre for the Study of Social Systems, School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University delivered the extension lecture on 'Relating Gandhi in the Present Troubled Times' in which he emphasised the need of Ahimsa (Non-violence) and Satya (Truth). The lecture was a part of Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary celebrations organised by the English Section of Women's College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
He said that the escalating violence and the narcissist attitude can only be changed with the power of education.
Highlighting relevance of Gandhian views, Prof Pathak explained the theory of 'Absence of the Presence' which relates to the importance of light in its absence. "We now feel the need of Mahatma Gandhi to find a solace from the present trying times," he said.
Prof Pathak also urged students to involve in useful and creative works and to avoid social media addiction.
Prof Naima Khatoon (Principal, Women's College) also spoke on the occasion.
Prof Nazia Hasan (Coordinator of the programme) delivered the welcome address, while Dr Kusumika Sarkar proposed the vote of thanks.
