29-MAR-2019: AMU team treks 6200 ft peak
Aligarh, March 29: An intrepid band of 21 students from the Hiking and Mountaineering Club, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) pulled off a remarkable feat by trudging away from fading dots of human settlements into the realm of a 6200 ft high mountain peak in the Sahastradhara area of Dehradun, Uttrakhand through dense forests, crystal clear waterfalls, flower laden meadows, gorges and sequestered stony caves.
These students, accompanied by Mr Mohammad Shadab Khan (Instructor, Hiking and Mountaineering Club) participated in a one-week adventure mountaineering course in which they have received a higher ranking to qualify for an advanced hiking and mountaineering course.
Mr Shadab Khan said that successful participants will also be trained in a basic course in mountaineering.
The AMU team members were trained in hiking and mountaineering activities such as tent pitching, bouldering, river crossing, repelling and height gaining among other activities during their trip.
Prof Syed Amjad Ali Rizvi (Secretary, Games Committee) and Dr Khurram (President, Hiking and Mountaineering Club) congratulated the team for the achievement.
