30-MAR-2019: Eminent scholars discuss risk factors related to stress at AMU workshop
Aligarh, March 30: To help people reach potentials in internal responses against perceived external pressures, the department of Ilaj bit Tadbeer, Faculty of Unani Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) organised a workshop on 'Coping Stress with Resilient and Classical Regimens' in which eminent scholars discussed risk factors, biochemical markers, immediate and remote implications of prolonged stress.
Delivering the keynote address on 'Clinical and Public Health Dimensions of Stress', Dr Nimesh G Desai (Director, Institute of Human Behavioural and Allied Sciences) delineated risk factors related to stress and the necessity of understanding how people in the least stressful countries avoid stress.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Dr Desai mentioned that countries witnessing rapid economic growth like India, China and USA, are also facing a drop in life satisfaction. AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor presided over the function. Dr Shankarlal Saraswat (Additional Director, Health and Family Welfare) also spoke on the occasion. Prof Asia Sultana (Organizing Secretary of the workshop) delivered the welcome address, while M Anwar proposed the vote of thanks.
Prof R C Jiloha (Head, Department of Psychiatry HIMSR, New Delhi) discussed how acute and chronic stress can intensify morbidity from anxiety disorders during a lecture highlighting the therapeutic aspect of stress related disorders. The lecture was concluded with remarks by Emeritus Prof Farhatullah Khan, Prof K M Yusuf Amin and Prof Tajuddin.
Prof Roomana N Siddiqui (Chairperson, Dept of Psychology) presented outlines on how problems can be put into perspective by finding healthy ways to cope with stress and getting the right care and support for reducing stressful feelings and symptoms. Prof Naeem Ahmad Khan, Prof Najam Khaliq and Prof Mahmood S Khan gave concluding remarks on the lecture.
Dr Ghazala Javed (Scientist-IV, CCRUM, New Delhi) also delivered a lecture, which was chaired by Prof Misbahuddin and Dr Saud Ali Khan (Principal A K Tibbiya College).
Prof Qayyum Husain (Dean, Faculty of Life Science) and Dr Shariq Aqeel (Chief Medical Officer, University Health Service) attended the valedictory session as the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively. They distributed certificates to the participants of the workshop. A poster making competition was also organised on the occasion.
Over 140 delegates from various states participated in the workshop.
