05-APR-2019: Dr Mohammad Iqtedar Husain Farooqi delivers K A Nizami Memorial Lecture
Aligarh, April 5: Eminent octogenarian scientist, Dr Mohammad Iqtedar Husain Farooqi (Retired Deputy Director, National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow), who has dedicated his professional life to the study of plants and their uses, delivered the K A Nizami Memorial Lecture on 'Quranic Plants: A Scientific Study' organised by the Quranic Studies Forum, K A Nizami Centre for Quranic Studies, Aligarh Muslim University.
He discussed details of plants by their specific names in the Quran and in the Prophetic tradition such as the black cumin, the miswak, the senna, chicory, cress seeds, aloe, fenugreek, marjoram and saffron among others, while putting forward scientific information regarding these plants.
Professor Wazahat Hussain (Former Chairman, Department of Botany) presided over the lecture.
Dr Muhammad Mubeen Saleem conducted the programme, attended by faculty members, research scholars and students from various departments.
