22-APR-2019: Dr Sumbul Zaheer delivers AAEP lecture
Aligarh, April 22: Delivering the Academic Enrichment Programme (AAEP) lecture on 'Role of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging in Transforming Patient Care' at the Interdisciplinary Biotechnology Unit (IBU), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Dr Sumbul Zaheer (Consultant, Department of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, Singapore General Hospital, Singapore) delineated the scope of radioactive isotopes in clinical medicine and research and how it is effective for treating cancer patients.
She emphasised that nuclear medicine is a specialized field involving the application of radioactive substances in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
Dr Sumbul discussed how Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scans are used to take images in nuclear medicine.
Prof Asadullah Khan (Coordinator, IBU) moderated the session, while Prof Ibne Ahmad (Department of radiodiagnosis) introduced the speaker. Prof Syed Ziaur Rahman (Coordinator, AAEP) proposed the vote of thanks.
Prof M Shoeb Zaheer, Dr Kenneth White, Dr Hina Younus and other faculty members attended the programme.
