29-APR-2019: Department of ENT organises extension lecture and CME programme
Aligarh, April 29: Prof Saurabh Varshney (Head, department of ENT and head and neck surgery, AIIMS, Rishikesh, Uttrakhand) delivered a lecture on 'Coblation in ENT, a Novel Technique' in which he discussed the method of delivering radiofrequency energy to soft tissue for applications in Otolaryngology.
The lecture took place during a University Extension Lecture and Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme organised by the department of ENT, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
Prof Varshney performed live surgical demonstration of tonsillo-adenoidectomy by coblation technique on a patient. Dr Amit Kumar (Assistant Professor, department of ENT and head and neck surgery, AIIMS, Rishikesh) and Dr Aftab Ahmed (Assistant Professor, department of ENT, JNMC) assisted him in the surgery.
Prof Varshney was also a panellist with Prof Pramod Kumar, Dr Mehtab Alam and other JNMC faculty members in a discussion on advanced surgical management of nasal diseases.
In the welcome address, Prof S C Sharma (Dean, Faculty of Medicine and organising chairman of the programme) spoke on the importance of the use of coblation technique for improving outcomes of ENT surgeries.
Prof K Chandra proposed the vote of thanks.
