15-MAY-2019: Advances in bulk scale nanoparticles fabrication
Aligarh, May 15: As nanotechnology rapidly gains traction across a range of industries as a cutting-edge area of scientific study; the Interdisciplinary Nanotechnology Centre (INC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has developed expertise in eco-friendly fabrication of technologically important nanoparticles in bulk quantities under ambient conditions of temperature, pressure and pH.
Speaking on the technological advances in bulk scale nanoparticles fabrication and Applications in AMU, Prof Absar Ahmad (Founder Director, INC) informed that a range of nanoparticles such as metals, metal oxides, metal sulfides, quantum dots, biominerals and organic nanomaterials have successfully been fabricated in appreciable amounts by the eco-friendly protocols developed at INC.
He pointed out that the production of nanoparticles is cumbersome because of the energy extensive procedures.
"However, the biologically fabricated nanoparticles produced at INC are inexpensive to manufacture while being in harmony with the ecosystem," said Prof Ahmad adding that with excellent shelf lives, these nanoparticles will be used abundantly in future technological and bio-medical applications.
Prof Ahmad elaborated that it is possible to produce bio-fabricated nanoparticles in significant quantities with low manufacturing cost for healthcare, agriculture, energy, environment, water purification and desalination.
He further said that INC will soon have a state-of-art clean-room facility to revolutionize the long-term research and development activities.
INC is also running a Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, project, 'Centre of excellence on Translational Research on Bioinspired Nanomaterials and Drugs from Endophytes' with an initial grant of rupees 4 crores. While inaugurating the project last year, AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor said that these nanoparticles will generate significant External Cash Flow for the University and add to its prestige and global recognition. He also expressed confidence in the multidisciplinary teaching and research and development undertakings at INC.
