28-MAY-2019: 'Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Donor Awareness and Recruitment Drive' conducted at JNMC
Aligarh, May 28: The department of pathology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) conducted a 'Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Donor Awareness and Recruitment Drive' at the faculty of medicine to sensitise students and employees about the need of developing a strong database of Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) typed, unrelated peripheral blood stem cell donors for patients suffering from blood disorders such as Leukaemias, Thalassemias and Aplastic Anaemia.
One hundred and seven donors registered in the drive which is a part of a worldwide registry programme, said Prof S H Arif (Dept of pathology).
He added: "With the registrations in the drive, it will become easier for blood disorder patients to find donors matching their HLAs."
Prof S C Sharma (Dean, faculty of medicine) also spoke on the occasion.
Dr (Major) M Fawad Farooq Khan with members of Resident Doctors' Association, Drug Society and College society of JNMC were also present.
The drive was conducted with the collaboration of DKMS-BMST, Bangalore.
