01-JUN-2019: No Tobacco Day observed
Aligarh, June 1: No Tobacco Day was observed on 31st May 2019 by the Department of Periodontics and Community Dentistry, Dr ZA Dental College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). Various programmes focusing on ill effects of tobacco use and awareness activities were carried out at Rural Health Training Centre, Jawa, Aligarh and at the college premises.
Prof Afshan Bey (Chairperson), Prof N D Gupta, Prof R K Tewari (Principal), Dr Neha Agrawal and Dr P K Yadav participated in the programme.
Oral health education and tobacco counseling was provided to all the OPD patients, through charts, models, pamphlets. Interns posted in the department were actively involved in the successful implementation of the programme.
During the No Tobacco Day observations at the Centre of Continuing and Adult Education and Extension, Prof Mohammad Gulrez (Director, Centre of Continuing and Adult Education and Extension) and Prof Aysha Munira delineated harmful effects of tobacco consumption. Dr Shamim Akhtar and Ms Musharraf Jahan also spoke on the occasion.
Earlier in the day, No Tobacco Day pledges were administered at the department of pediatrics and the departments of Sunni and Shia theology by the faculty members, non-teaching staff and students. Prof Farzana K Beig (Chairperson, department of pediatrics) led the pledge at the department of pediatrics, while Prof Mohammad Saleem (Dean, faculty of theology) conducted the pledge at the departments of Sunni and Shia theology.
