08-JUN-2019: ICMR grants research project under short term studentship
Aligarh, June 8: The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) approved a research project of Arham Khan, MBBS final prof student in JN Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University under the guidance of Prof Mohammad Shameem (Chairman, Department of Tuberculosis and Respiratory Medicine). It is significant as very few research proposals are accepted by ICMR. The topic of the proposed project was 'Cross sectional study on prevalence of respiratory disorders in traffic police personnel and its correlation with exhaled Carbon Monoxide levels'.
The ICMR conducts Short Term Studentship (STS) programme for undergraduate medical and dental students every year to encourage and train them in research activities. After the acceptance of the final report, the students are awarded a scholarship of Rs. 20,000.
The study will provide valuable information regarding the vulnerability of people working in the Traffic Control Section in Aligarh to the increasing levels of air pollution. As not many similar studies have been done on this section of the society, the Department of TB and Respiratory Medicine also intends to organize an interactive session with the concerned people, in order to spread awareness about the risk of respiratory hazards they are constantly exposed and its preventive measures to be adopted.
Prof Mohommad Shameem, who will guide the project, has congratulated Arham Khan on the achievement.
