14-JUN-2019: Participants gear up to bend and stretch on Yoga Day in AMU
Aligarh, June 14: Numerous participants have geared up to bend and stretch for a unity of mind, body, thought, action, restraint and fulfilment while performing Tadasana, Urdhva Hastansana, Uttanasana, Malasana and other Asanas (poses) in mass yoga sessions at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) which will begin its week-long Yoga Day celebrations starting June 15.
AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor will be the chief guest on June 21 at the department of physical education, while Pro Vice Chancellor, Prof M H Beg will inaugurate the Yoga Day celebrations on June 15.
The department of physical education will organise workshops and special lectures from June 15 to June 21 from 6:00 am to 8:30 am every day.
Prof Zamirullah Khan (Chairman, department of physical education) said, people from all over Aligarh have registered to participate in Yoga Day events.
"Yoga has boomed in recent decades, bringing people from different culture and countries together and this could be clearly seen from the zeal and enthusiasm with which the people across the globe are practicing yoga," said Prof Khan.
He added that students and staff of the University are thrilled and pumped up to observe the occasion, taking a pledge to keep their body and mind healthy.
R S Bhandari (Patanjali, Haridwar), Prof Akbar Husain (Dean, faculty of social science), Kamal Ali Khan (Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports, Patiala) and Prof Raghvendra Sharma (GLA University, Mathura) will deliver special lectures during the celebrations at the department of physical education.
The physical education section, Women's College will organise a workshop on Yoga from June 17 to June 21 to mark the celebrations. Dr Razia Rizvi (Deputy Director, Sports and coordinator of the workshop) informed that the registrations are open for female participants.
