Aligarh, July 3: The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Vice Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor has appointed Professor Shamsul Haque Siddiqui (Department of Geography) as the new Dean, Students' Welfare (DSW) for a period of two years. An order to this effect was issued today.
As the DSW, Prof Siddiqui will be responsible for coordinating activities of various Halls of Residence and the NRSC, monitoring the functioning of the University Health Service and indoor treatment of students in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer and the provost concerned and running the Coaching and Guidance Centre, Employment Bureau and General Education Centre among other important functions.
Prof Siddiqui is a distinguished academician with a vast administrative experience. He has served two terms as University Court member and Academic Council member.
He has been a member of Staff Association, Central Purchase Committee and Grievance Cell.
Prof Siddiqui has served as the SS Hall-South Provost, Chairman of the Department of Geography and as an Assistant Proctor.
AMU has also appointed Prof Sirajuddin Ajmali (Department of Urdu) as the Coordinator of Cultural Education Centre-CEC in addition to his own duties for a period of two years.
In his new role as the CEC Coordinator, Prof Ajmali will work on providing opportunities for dialogue and exchange of ideas and skills between the University community and the outside world to foster scholarly and creative activities in art, culture, literature, performing arts and education.
Prof Ajmali is a renowned writer, an astute literary critic and a noted contemporary Urdu poet, who is well-versed in traditional and modern metrical forms of poetry. He received the Urdu Academy, New Delhi Award for his book, 'Taraqqi Pasand Tehreek Aur Urdu Ghazal.'
Mr Naseem Ahmad Khan (Chairman, Department of Chemical Engineering) has been appointed as the Director, Centre for Promotion of Science .
As the Director, Mr Khan will work for creating awareness on the importance of acquiring and creating scientific knowledge and upholding the cause of high quality science education in institutions among other responsibilities.
Mr Khan has been a faculty member at the Department of Chemical Engineering faculty since 1986.
